From California to a Tribal Village in India: How One Youth Sparked a Global Movement
Change often begins with a single act of vision.
🌸 Her Hygiene. Her Education. Her Equal Place in the World. 🌸 The Eshaan Initiative, supported by Global Shree Gauranga’s Foundation Trust, is transforming tribal schools in India by building safe, modern toilets and ensuring every girl has the dignity and confidence to continue her education.
Why It Matters?
For decades, poor sanitation has forced many girls to drop out of schools in India’s tribal regions. With clean, gender-segregated toilets, girls feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn. Education is not just a right—it’s a pathway to empowerment.
When Eagle Scout Eshaan Brar from Rocklin, California, arrived in India for holidays with his parents, he discovered through photos provided by GSGFT that tribal girls in India’s Palghar District, Maharashtra, were dropping out of tribal school, the reason shocked him: the toilets in their school existed, but were broken and non-functional.
“Moved by the situation, Eshaan chose to act. He reached out to the Global Shree Gauranga’s Foundation Trust (GSGFT), a reputed non-profit with strong grassroots presence across India and together with his mother, Eshaan personally visited the tribal village school to understand the reality on the ground.”
“The Chairperson of the Global Shree Gauranga’s Foundation Trust and team , along with Eshaan and his mother, were warmly welcomed by the school and village community.”
“During the physical inspection, they were saddened to witness the toilets in a state of disrepair—unsafe, unhygienic, and unfit for the children’s use.”
For these girls of tribal village, a malfunctioning toilet was as big a barrier as not having one at all.

As part of its broader commitment to public health and social welfare, Shree Gaurangas Foundation Trust has also implemented the Eshaan COVID Medicine Relief Program in Palghar District , supporting tribal and vulnerable communities through essential medicine distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Eshaan’s heartfelt conversations with tribal children from grades 1 to 5 revealed his empathetic and thoughtful spirit. As he listened to their dreams and concerns—especially their yearning for proper sanitation—he gently arranged a small treat for them as a token of love. In that moment, he not only identified a critical barrier to education but also responded with sincerity and action.”
“With a heavy heart, the school sources shared that the broken and unhygienic toilets had compelled many girls to discontinue their education, as they were left to choose dignity over learning.”
Together with GSGFT’s structured engagement with local government authorities, Gram Panchayats, and traditional community leaders, the project underwent a rigorous process of needs assessment, official approvals, compliance with statutory sanitation standards, and stakeholder consultations. Only after these formal protocols were completed did the restoration and reconstruction of gender-segregated sanitation facilities for the rural tribal school commenced — an undertaking that reflects the GSGFT institutional credibility and operational discipline.
“As part of the initial phase, the existing toilet blocks—damaged, unsafe, and non-functional—were systematically demolished. This step was undertaken to ensure structural safety and to prepare the site for the construction of new, gender-segregated sanitation facilities in compliance with prescribed standards.”
“With the site cleared, new gender-segregated toilets were built to high standards—brick by brick, restoring dignity, health, and opportunity for the children.”
